This improvement plan has been developed as a direct result of the OFSTED review of the effectiveness of Sandwell Safeguarding Children Board (SSCB) undertaken between January 27th and February 19th 2015.
The review was published on June 5th 2015
The review of SSCB took place in parallel with the inspection of services for children in need of help and protection, children looked after, and care leavers.
Inspectors found that the SSCB was inadequate primarily because the pace of improvement since the previous inspection in 2013 had been too slow, with the result that the LSCB was not fully discharging its statutory responsibilities. Recent changes following a Strategic Review of the SSCB in September 2014 were assessed as having a positive impact on the effectiveness of the SSCB.
SSCB is making swift progress in responding to the areas for priority and immediate action highlighted in the report. All of these areas already formed part of the SSCB Business Plan 2014-17.
